'2020 was foreseen as a festive year with FAO turning 75, as well as the UN system itself celebrating its 75th anniversary. We have planned major events, celebrations, all kind of activities involving many people, but life has made us reshuffle our cards. In late February-early March, as the new coronavirus strain (also known as COVID-19) hit the world and was declared a pandemic, we had to reconsider our way of living and working by doing these mostly from home. Since FAO has not given up its mandate, and after a short period of rethinking, we have continued to support vulnerable rural families, farmers, and governments and resumed providing in-kind assistance and knowledge in the areas of food and agriculture – as has been the norm since 1945. During its 75 years of existence, FAO has relied on certain core principles that aide such transformations and transitions. Today, we would like to share with you why resilience, sustainability, and innovation are pertinent for us and what these can bring to your lives, even in times of crisis and beyond.
