'‘Buy Korean Food’ convention goes online to link K-food with foreign buyers'

'2021 K-푸드 바이어 온라인 수출상담회, 한국 농식품의 우수성 해외에 널리 알리다  Squid Game and BTS have driven Hallyu to new heights. Riding this wave also is K-food. Han Seong-woo sheds light on how Korea is promoting its cuisine and agriculture, unfazed by the pandemic. K-POP and drama aren\'t the only cultural exports from Korea expanding their boundaries across the world. K-food\'s reaching a wider audience at the COEX Convention and Exhibition Center in Seoul with this year\'s \"Buy Korean Food\" showcase, or BKF 2021.  \"It\'s linking 165 domestic businesses in the K-food industry one to one with foreign buyers from 23 countries around the world... online.\"  Through interactive video chats in groups of three, including an interpreter, foreign buyers get the rare opportunity to ask questions and communicate in depth regarding what they want to import.  \"They\'re very interested in agriculture and also kimchi because kimchi is becoming very famous in other countries too. I also did an interview right now about kimchi.\"  The session is part of a bigger K-Food promotion hosted by the Agriculture Ministry and organized by the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation... which aims to globalize Korean cuisine through live commerce, cooking shows and MOU signings with retailers overseas... like with Asia-based, multinational department store operator Parkson.  \"We hope the MOU we’ve signed with leading Asian department store, Parkson, will further stimulate the distribution of K-food in China through information exchange, the new discovery of marketable items, and promotional activities.\"  BKF 2021 comes amid a promising trend for Korean fishery products as well. Exports of Korean fishery goods so far this year are up twenty-point five percent from the same period last year. Data from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries show outbound shipments from January to October reached two-point-two-four billion U.S. dollars in total.
