Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle spoke without using words with her makeup story. She demanded attention, her makeup look was bold, striking, empowering enhanced and it was layered just like her story. I believe that history was made as she spoke her truth on the other side of her victory. Her presence was captivating because she knew her message was grounded in her sense of self and when you apply a makeup look like this with all these factors hold weight, makeup history is also made. Let’s break it down. INSPIRATION: First and foremost, I found it interesting how she started the interview remarking about her late mother-in-law Princess Diana interview. The makeup similarities here are powerful yet graceful in its authenticity. Both wore more makeup with a level of certainty in the eyes. Bold liner, drama, pain, resilience, passion, love, and a story that demanded you to watch it out as they spoke… directly in the eyes. They both also wore a pink blush that wasn’t about being soft, it was as if they wanted you to know, I’ve fought, and I’m still here. They both painted this picture of strength, courage, and ability to make it through the other side. ON-CAMERA VS. EDITED PHOTOS As I went back and forth, with the idea of the concept, does anyone else care about this makeup historic moment, I started my research anyways… if not for anyone but myself. Here’s what I found. Before the interview aired, I studied images of Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle and thought to myself “ damn, she’s wearing a lot more makeup than she normally does.” I was curious as to WHY that her truth. ( Mind you this before I drew any parallels between her and Princess Diana.) So I dug. Now, you’re inspired by her makeup look and story, allow me to show you the smoke and mirrors behind this edit that I believe is awful. Why? Because it takes away her authenticity. Her story. This historic edit of her looks like 2020 and her message is timeless. She doesn’t have this bullshit lift under her eyes and coverage of her foundation that is full YET you can still see her freckles? On-camera, she showed up as herself. Her makeup look wasn’t heavy, once I watched the interview, I was shocked. Her skin complexion was natural, her freckles were there, her blush striking yet diffused seamlessly, and her eyes told a REAL RAW story. MAKEUP LOOK - HOW TO ACHIEVE IT FOR YOU Complexion: Even out your skin complexion with a BB cream, allow your skin to really show through. This how you will keep the makeup look fresh, minimalistic, and real. Too much for foundation and concealer of this makeup story can look as if you’re going to a club. Be sure to eliminate as much redness as possible because the color story for the rest of the look is pinks/reds/purples and it’s important to neutralize these shades in complexion. PLACEMENT MATTERS HERE. Blush: The bold color and dimension are like the version of rose petal. It’s saturated then diffuses into nothing. You can achieve this makeup look by applying your blush on the highest points of your cheekbones and blow it out into light using a shimmer shade/finishing powder on the edges. This makeup technique will get you those lifted cheekbones without the contouring. EYES: She told her story here, by making a statement yet in an understated way. You can achieve Meghan Markle’s smokey eyes by keeping the depth of color on the lower lash line. If you study her makeup look will notice that (similar to Princess Diana) the black on the lower lash line is the weight of color. Now, in regards to the colors used to create these smokey eyes. Black, deep purple, a cranberry shade for highlighting, and a soft brown shade for the transition. She has a few individual lashes, focused on the outer corners. The overall makeup takeaway for her makeup look is to keep it simple and allow as many features as possible to be simply enhanced not changed and command attention on the eyes.'
