03:33 Jan 26, 2022
'Bamboo rice, a traditional Malaysian food, made on an open fire! Today we go off the beaten path to Kampung Seri Rahmat, a village near Ipoh, Malaysia to watch a local village chef, Nik, make this Malaysian street food - which the locals call lemang. Lemang/glutinous bamboo rice is Nik is a traditional dish for Eid-al-Fitr (or Hari Raya, as the Malays call it) in Malaysian cuisine. Nik is a master of making bamboo rice, and has been making this traditional Malaysian food for many years. And Nik makes it the traditional way too, over an open fire. No ovens for him! Ben, the Ipoh native and Malaysia travel guide who made us homecooked Malaysian food in Ipoh in the last video, returns as our interpreter. Our special bamboo rice lunch with Nik also includes beef rendang, an Indonesian food that Nik puts a special twist on, and our travel guide Ben says he\'s never had rendang this good anywhere in Malaysia! Getting Ipoh-style Malaysian street food, campfire cooking-style, right by the highway from a village food chef - what\'s not to like?
