Copyright 1988 by Jack Daniels Distillery Published by Rutledge Hill Press Inc. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hush Puppies • 2 cups white cornmeal • ¼ cup AP flour • 1 teaspoon baking powder • ½ teaspoon baking soda • ½ teaspoon salt • ½ teaspoon pepper • 3Tablespoons brown sugar • ½ cup chopped onion • ½ cup chopped pepper • ½ cup buttermilk • 2/3 cup water • ½ cup bacon drippings or butter • 1 beaten egg • Vegetable oil to fry Combine dry ingredients with onion and green pepper. Combine wet ingredients; stir into dry ingredients. Drop by spoonful into hot oil. Fry until golden brown.
